Buninyong Sustainability Community Garden

The Buninyong Community Garden is a thriving space where locals come together to grow fresh produce, learn sustainable gardening practices, and strengthen bonds.
Beyond offering fresh vegetables, the garden plays a vital role in enhancing food security by empowering residents to grow their own food. It fosters community resilience, promotes biodiversity, and creates a welcoming environment where people of all ages can share knowledge and skills. The garden supports environmental stewardship, health, and a more self-sufficient community.
Food Is Free Inc. Green Space
212 Ripon St S, Ballarat Central (corner Urquhart & Ripon Street South)
Food Is Free Green Space is a purpose-built, 40+ garden bed classroom, for community members to enjoy, particularly at-risk/marginalised community members. They specialise in accessible, skills-based and empowerment-building workshops.
Anyone is welcome to pick food from this space at anytime, or enjoy what is on offer in the Share Table, grab free seeds, check the cooking/gardening books in our Food For The Brain street library, grab a free garden pot or two to add to/start their own garden.
Lucas Community Garden
160 Eleanor Drive, Lucas (beside the Kindergarten carpark)
A community share garden for those in Lucas and surrounds to gather and connect around growing food.
The garden is managed by a volunteer committee and a team of volunteers who meet once a month to tend the garden, carry out maintenance, and share a morning tea.
Ballarat South Community Hub Garden
11 Tuppen Dr, Sebastopol
This community garden is a work in progress. Started in 2015 with a few spud boxes, many incredible community members have contributed thousands of hours to establish, grow and renew herbs and vegetables.
Today a small group of volunteers maintain the garden gathering each week to chat and garden together whilst growing food for the various Ballarat Neighbourhood Centre community cooking and learning programs.
Sebastopol Community Farm
4-10 Spencer St, Sebastopol
Ballarat Neighbourhood Centre and Phoenix P-12 Community College have partnered with the Victoria Government to develop an exciting new project in Sebastopol – a community farm.
The space is currently being set up and will become a community, training, and market garden for the Sebastopol community, and will eventually be the home of the Neighbourhood Centre’s horticulture classes and other training programs.
First Nations Women’s Yarning Garden
25 Barkly St, Ballarat East
Located at Barkly Square (est. 2023) and led by a self-determined group of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander women, set up for mob to connect & learn in a safe space. Public are welcome to view the many plants and learn about culture.
Grow & Thrive Multicultural Garden

Located at Barkly Square (est. 2022) Food Is Free Inc. collaborate with Ballarat Regional Multicultural Council, to learn, grow & share culturally appropriate food.
Sebastopol Men’s Shed Garden
201 Vickers St, Sebastopol
Members grow a variety of vegetables, which are largely used in meal preparation for members. Any excess production is either stored long-term frozen, or sold.
Members also have hothouse production of flowers and pot-plants. Made available to the public at Saturday morning markets.
Sebastopol Library Community Garden
181 Albert St, Sebastopol
Funded by VicHealth under Jumpstart! Round 2, Sebastopol Library has a thriving community garden on the rear deck. Accessible to all library visitors, the garden is used to provide education sessions on gardening and food production, children’s activities and much more.
Delacombe Community Garden
18 Nandiriog Dr, Delacombe
Located alongside the Doug Dean Reserve, this garden came under the Ballarat Neighbourhood Centre management in July 2023 when the organisation started managing the Delacombe Community Hub.
The garden is now being redeveloped to embrace Therapeutic Horticulture. Going forward volunteers and the community will be responsible for the whole garden, growing food to share and for use in the Our Kitchen Social Enterprise community lunch program.
